Exploring the Colors of Flowers & Greenery
Thursday, August 6th | 7:30 – 9:00 pm
In this Open Studio, we'll explore how color can bring flowers and foliage to life while discovering that leaves aren't simply "green" and flowers are made up of far more than one color. By looking closely at nature, we'll learn to see the subtle variations, highlights, shadows, and color combinations that make each plant unique.
This is a fun and relaxing way to experiment with color while strengthening your observation skills and developing a deeper appreciation for the beauty all around us.
Mini Exploration: Flower & Greenery Color Studies in Your Art Journal 🌸🌿
We'll begin with a guided mini lesson in your Art Journal, where you'll create a page of simple flower and leaf color studies.
Then you'll choose one or two of your favorite flowers or greenery to create small botanical-inspired studies.
You'll explore:
• mixing vibrant flower colors and natural greens
• discovering the many shades found within leaves and petals
• using light and dark values to create depth and dimension
• letting nature inspire your creativity without striving for perfection
There is no "right way"—just an invitation to observe, play with color, and enjoy the creative process.
Materials Needed:
- Art Journal (or watercolor paper, mixed media paper, or sketchbook)
- Watercolor or Acrylic Paints
- Brushes (a variety of sizes)
- Water cup, paper towels, palette
After the mini lesson, you can:
- continue filling your journal with flower and leaf studies
- create a larger floral or botanical painting
- or work on your own project during the remainder of Open Studio
Let this be a time to slow down, notice the beautiful colors growing all around you, and enjoy the simple joy of creating.
