Join us for June’s Open Studio & creative exploration: Painting the Colors of the Sky

The sky offers an ever-changing masterpiece throughout the day — from the soft glow of dawn to the golden warmth of sunrise, the brightness of midday, the richness of sunset, and the deep, calming tones of dusk and night.

In this open studio, we’ll explore how to capture these transitions using color, blending, and intuitive expression.

This is a playful and inspiring way to experiment with color while tuning into the natural rhythms of light and time - something we experience every day, yet often rush past.

Mini Exploration: Sky Color Transitions in Your Art Journal ✨

We’ll begin with a guided mini lesson in your Art Journal, where you’ll explore painting different times of day through color.

Then you will pick one or two of your favorites skies and create mini studies of your sky scenes.

You’ll explore:

• how to blend colors to create soft skies
• capturing the feeling of different times of day through color choices
• using light and dark values to suggest shifting light
• layering colors to create depth and atmosphere
• adding subtle details like clouds, stars, or horizon lines

There’s no “right way” — just an invitation to observe, feel, and create.

Materials needed:

Art Journal (or paper or canvas)
Watercolor or Acrylic Paints
Brushes (a variety of sizes for blending and detail)
Water cup, paper towels, palette

Optional: sponges or other materials for blending skies

After the mini lesson, you can:

• continue exploring different times of day in your journal
  
• create a larger sky scene on canvas
  
• or work on your own project during the remainder of Open Studio
